CEVC annual Meet and GreetThe Carleton Equal Voice Chapter will be holding it's annual Meet and Greet mid-September. Your exec will be holding a brief presentation of what to expect this upcoming year and ways for you to get involved! Afterward, we'll make our way off campus for some drinks, food and what's bound to be great conversation. So stay tuned for details!
Equal Voice is a multi-partisan group dedicated to promoting the election of more women to all levels of government. Are you interested in Canadian politics?
Do you think that women should be fairly represented in the Canadian government? If yes, then please join our group and help us promote this wonderful and incredibly important cause! As some may not know, Canada has been a laggard on the issue of female representation in parliament. Canada ranks 40th out of 189 countries in the number of women elected to national parliament - falling behind most of Europe, parts of Africa, the Middle East and Australia. Women constitute 52% of Canada's population and make up an average of 21% of Canada's municipal councils, provincial legislatures and the House of Commons. That is hardly something to be proud of. At the 1995 United Nations World Conference on Women, Canada committed to "take measures to ensure woman's equal access to and full participation in power structures and decision-making" and to "increase woman's capacity to participate in decision-making and leadership." Now, we need actions from our citizens, political parties and government. Equal Voice and the Carleton University Chapter believe in genuine partnership between men and women - we are multi-partisan and open to all sorts of ideas! |
